The laughter is the last thing he'd expected, except perhaps in mockery, so his first reaction is withdrawal, the second is to relax as the doctor explains. He doesn't entirely trust the doctor has encountered the same thing, or understood it as he does. But then, he never trusts anyone else with dreams. No one else seems to understand them.
